John Fury’s former opponent Neil Malpass, who beat Tyson’s dad, dies aged 69 as the boxing world pays tribute

A FORMER boxing rival of John Fury has died at the age of 69.

Neil Malpass beat Fury in a 10-round heavyweight contest back in 1989 to win the Central Area title.

Malpass fought 48 times over the course of his career which spanned from 1977 to 1990.

His win over Fury made him one of only four fighters to defeat Tyson’s dad, and the only one to face the now 59-year-old in a title bout.

A cabinet split has erupted after Wes Streeting appeared to criticise Ed Miliband for failing to help bring down Bashar al-Assad when he was Labour leader.

Miliband, who is now the energy secretary, ordered his MPs not to vote in favour of bombing Syria in 2013 after the Syrian dictator used chemical weapons on his own people.

As a result, then prime minister David Cameron was defeated and the UK refused to intervene.
