Duke Great Johnny Dawkins Gets An Extension At Central Florida
Couldn’t possibly be happier for him
Well this is great news: Duke great Johnny Dawkins, who was thought to be on the hot seat as Central Florida transitioned to the Big 12, has earned a contract extension instead.
Dawkins, whose jersey hangs in Cameron, will be coaching UCF through 2026-27.
That’s really good to hear first because you want to see Duke guys do well and second because Dawkins is a wonderful man and you especially want to see good people rewarded.
It was really striking to us that when Stanford let him go, it seemed to pain them to do it. The statement they made at the time was really heartfelt.
We saw it again after Duke beat UCF and Tacko Fall in the 2017 NCAA tournament, a game where Dawkins’ son, Aubry, missed the potentially winning game shot. He was never better than he was after that crushing defeat. We’re thrilled that UCF has given him this vote of confidence and hope he has continued success.
