Man charged with stealing from North Greenbush Home Depot

NORTH GREENBUSH, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Town of North Greenbush Police Department announced that an arrest has been made in connection to a theft investigation. Andrei Stoian, of Queens, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny.

On June 13, police responded to the Home Depot on North Greenbush Road following a report that someone had stolen cash utilizing a "quick change" scam. Such scams involve paying for small-priced items with large bills in an attempt to confuse the cashier into giving more change than is owed.

Stoian allegedly stole $1,278 before fleeing the store after being confronted by staff. He was located by the nearby AT&T store around 9:13 p.m. and was taken into custody.

Stoian was released after being processed and is scheduled to return to court at a later date. North Greenbush Police were assisted in the arrest by New York State Police. The investigation remains ongoing.
