CBA baseball coach Casey O'Connor passes after battle with cancer

COLONIE, NY (NEWS10) -- The Capital Region sports world was dealt a devastating blow on Saturday. CBA baseball coach Casey O'Connor passed away after a battle with rectal cancer.

The Shaker graduate had coached at CBA since 2011, all the way through their playoff run this past season. He led the Brothers to the section title in 2021.

Prior to his time at CBA, O'Connor coached his alma mater, Saint Rose, for 5 years. The school has announced they will dedicate their baseball field in O'Connor's name.

CBA posted a message to X, saying, "It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the passing of our Varsity Baseball Coach, Casey O'Connor. Throughout his long & courageous battle with cancer, Coach O'Connor was an inspiration to his players, our students, & the entire CBA community. Pls keep the O'Connor family in your prayers during this difficult time. He influenced the lives of 100s who played for him. His legacy will live on w/ future teams who will play on Casey O'Connor Field. St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us. Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!"
