British tourist reports rape in Ayia Napa

An 18-year-old woman on holiday in Cyprus reported a 19-year-old man raped her, it emerged on Monday.

Both are British nationals and the incident allegedly unfolded in Ayia Napa.

The woman reported meeting him in the early hours of Thursday at a club. She said he then raped her at his apartment.

The man was arrested on Saturday morning and remanded in court for five days on Saturday at Famagusta district court.

Investigators will examine CCTV footage for evidence, while forensic tests have been carried out.
