UPDATE: OKC victims knew man accused of setting them on fire

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — New court documents filed in connection to the arrest of a man accused of setting two people on fire revealed both of the victims knew him.

Officials took 70-year-old Michael Madison into custody Tuesday for a number of charges including First Degree Arson.

The arrest stems from a Tuesday morning incident near Hefner road and Western Avenue in which Oklahoma City Police told News 4 a man and woman were set on fire.

Court documents say investigators spoke with the male victim who said he woke up on fire behind a northwest metro business and saw the female victim on fire as well. The female victim told him she saw Madison douse them with gas and light them on fire. The male victim was later able to identify Madison as the suspect in a photograph after he and the female were taken to the Baptist Hospital Burn Unit.

Documents further say that after Madison was taken into custody investigators smelled a strong odor of accelerant coming from him.

News 4 spoke with neighbors who tried to help the female victim Tuesday, shaken up by the ordeal.

"That was some stuff I've seen off TV," said Cory Spencer. "I don't know if I'll be right after that."

News 4 also obtained video from a business owner showing the moment Madison was taken into custody. Documents say that while investigators were finishing processing the scene, Madison returned to the area.

Madison is a convicted felon in Oklahoma County and has a criminal history in Kansas as well related to robbery charges in 2011.
