Report: Tottenham are planning a £20m swoop for central midfield target

Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be looking to sign another central midfielder before the transfer window closes this month, and one Serie A star could now be the main target.

Locatelli to London?

The latest midfielder to be linked with the Lilywhites is Manuel Locatelli, who could be set to leave Juventus this summer.

According to Pete O’Rourke at Football Insider, Tottenham are plotting a move for the Italian as Ange Postecoglou is keen to bolster his ranks in the middle of the park.

It is thought Locatelli would be a good replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who is now on loan at Marseille and will likely not play for Spurs ever again.

Apparently, Juventus would be willing to let Locatelli go for £20m. However, with the 26-year-old under contract until 2028, Juventus are expected to be in a strong position when it comes to any negotiations.

The player’s versatility is seen as a key factor in attracting interest from Tottenham, as is his experience playing at a high level with the Turin club.

Postecoglou tinkering with midfield options

Tottenham have already signed the highly-rated teenager, Archie Gray, this summer, while Lucas Bergvall has also joined up with the squad after signing in January.

Alongside Pape Sarr, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Yves Bissouma, Tottenham are not exactly lacking in the middle of the park. But, there is a chance Oliver Skipp could be moved on before the end of the month, with Leicester City interested in the Spurs academy graduate (Football Insider).

The idea of a move for Locatelli has been described as a ‘dream’ for Spurs, and it is thought the player will not be an important part of new manager, Thiago Motta’s project at Juventus (JuveLive).

I like Locatelli a lot. He really impressed me whenever he’s played for Italy, and he’s the kind of solid, composed number 6 we are looking for. At £20m, he’s not going to break the bank, either.
