In her post, Reddit user PogoChop explained the awkward situation with her neighbour over their side-by-side gardens.

She showed a picture of the shared lawn, which didn’t have a clear boundary line.

After the poster mistakenly mowed part of her neighbour’s lawn, he was quick to retaliate.

He made sure she was able to see exactly where her lawn ended and his began.

“[My] neighbour [is] not happy that we mowed one row into his lawn, so he decided to spray grass killer to make a point,” she explained.

The man had applied the killer in broken lines to create a visible boundary between the two gardens.

Discoloured and dead, the grass line was clearly evident in the photograph.

The Reddit user revealed that the passive aggressive situation had made her and her partner consider moving.

“We’re looking to sell the house soon, so not a good look for potential buyers,” she said.

She added that she would “consider” asking him to pay for the damage to the grass.

Reddit users shared their thoughts on the situation in the comments section.

“It would be such perfect karma if the survey determined that the part the original poster mowed, actually belonged to them,” wrote one person.

“You can come cut my whole damn yard anytime you want,” joked another reader.

“My wife and I moved to the burbs and our neighbours on both sides are obsessed with their lawns,” shared a third Redditor.

“The first week after we moved in one of the neighbors made it a point to tell me that a tree that is clearly on my property is in fact, his.”

The Top Five Reasons Neighbours Squabble

One study by Compare the Market revealed the top reason British neighbour's argue

  1. Broken fences – top of the board was broken fences and whose responsibility it was to fix it
  2. Parking: one of the leading drivers of neighbour disputes, with 54.1 per cent of people having issues with people parking in front of their house, parking bay or driveway
  3. Trees – complaints about a neighbour’s tree cracking your garden path was also common with nearly half of participants finding it frustrating
  4. Bin wars – outdoor bin etiquette continues to ignite the most furious debates between neighbours
  5. Nosy Neighbours – some people have their eyes and ears at the ready to have a peek causing problems for others

The Reddit user described the behaviour as “petty on a different level.”

“Leave a one inch buffer of unmowed grass at the edge of the boundary so it eventually grows taller and taller,” suggested another person.

“From now on, mow several inches inside that line and let it grow into a tall scraggly strip,” agreed a second commenter.

“If he gets tired of it he’ll have to mow on your side and you can make him a hypocrite.”

“Just think, that person has so little going on in his life that this is what he chose to invest time and energy into. Some people are sad individuals,” pointed out one reader.
