Teen girl walking in Oakland crosswalk killed, another injured after hit-and-run crash

OAKLAND — A 17-year-old Oakland resident walking in a crosswalk died and another person was hospitalized Monday following a hit-and-run crash that appears to have involved alcohol use, police said.

The teen died at the scene following that collision in the 7200 block of International Boulevard about 6:30 p.m. Police said the driver suspected of hitting her crashed into a vehicle moments later in the 8400 block of International Boulevard and that Alameda County Sheriff’s deputies made the arrest.

Authorities identified the teen as Mardenia Carrillo Lopez.

Police said that alcohol appears to be a factor in the collisions.

The other person in the crosswalk with the teen remained hospitalized in stable condition on Tuesday, according to police.

Police did not say how many vehicles were involved in the second collision or whether anyone else was injured.

Local residents and motorists who watched it happen helped deputies find the suspect.
