NEW YORK, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Mayor Eric Adams and the Department of Transportation announced more public spaces along Broadway from East 21st Street down to East 17th Street at Union Square.

It’s part of the city’s “Working People’s Agenda,” which dedicated $375 million to creating new public spaces.

The stretch of the mayor’s “Broadway Vision” connects the Flatiron District to Union Square and adds more outdoor dining, public seating, planters, and Citi Bike stations. To make the area safer for pedestrians and cyclists, the city added wider crosswalks and curb extensions as well as more narrow traffic turns and reconfigured curb lanes for loading trucks.

Previous phases of the mayor’s plan added public spaces to high-traffic areas around Madison Square Garden, Herald Square, and the Arches in Manhattan, along with Broadway Junction in Brooklyn.
