Fan-favourite host Peter Levy was due to bring viewers of East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire their local news when the alarm was raised.

However, he was nowhere to be seen when national host Anna Foster handed over to the local regions.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one confused viewer said: “Missed you for your lunch time news Peter! Was there a technical problem?”

In reply, the seasoned anchor said: “Sorry…..we had a fire alarm. No fire. Normal service will be resumed at 6 30 as they say.”

The Sun has contacted the BBC for comment.

It comes after the Beeb’s base in Manchester was evacuated following a “laptop explosion”.

The studios are home to BBC Breakfast, which is presented by Sally Nugent, Jon Kay, Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty.

At least five fire engines gathered at the site in Salford.

Last November BBC Breakfast was pulled off air mid show over a fire alarm in the studio.

Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty had been presenting from the iconic red sofa at the time.
