INDERGARTEN

INDERGARTEN is a collection of limited edition pieces designed by Berlin-based Taiwanese design duo Yellow Nose Studio, and a book of the project presented by METER. The following text, written by Anna Dorothea Ker, describes the collection in detail. Ten variations on three wooden shapes – a circle, a square, and a rectangle – form the founda- tion of Yellow Nose Studio ’s INDERGARTEN series. True to the spirit of simplification, Yellow Nose Studio has dropped the ‘K’ from the word ‘Kindergarten,’ opening a space of possibility guided by playfulness and curiosity. The childhood imagination serves as fertile ground, from which new geometries and architec- tural structures emerge through simple gestures, such as the stacking of blocks. As a nod to the philosophy of Friedrich Fröbel, who in 1840 established the first Kindergarten for young chil- dren – a term that literally translates to ‘children’s garden’ and was intended to provide space for children to explore and observe nature – INDERGARTEN comprises a playful collection of seat- ing objects and vases. Returning to the ritual of picking up a pen and scribbling on stones collected during their travels, Hsin-Ying Ho and Kai-Ming Tung imprint their vessels with hand gestures and abstract textures. Between wonder and experimentation, originality and repetition, new ideas begin to emerge.
