RFK Jr suspends his independent bid to be president — gives support to Trump

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is suspending his campaign and saying he is throwing his support to former President Donald Trump.

Kennedy, an environmental attorney and talk radio host who hails from the famous Kennedy political family, formally announced his intentions in a speech on Friday. He said the campaign was suspended, and not ended.

And he said he was going to "throw my support to President Trump."

He stopped short of officially endorsing him, but Trump's son Don Jr. announced that he had.

"RFK Jr endorses Trump!!!" he posted on Truth Social.

He is best known for promoting a variety of conspiracy theories, particularly on vaccination and the COVID pandemic. Despite hailing from a family that has produced famous Democratic Party leaders, he has particularly appealed to some activists on the right. Polls have offered mixed signals on whether Trump or Vice President Kamala Harris would benefit more from his exit.

He has also faced harsh media criticism for a variety of bizarre scandals, including allegations he sexually harassed a nanny and an admission that he dumped a dead bear cub in Central Park.

In recent weeks, his campaign schedule largely dried up, fueling speculation about his intent to exit the race.
