Autopsy released for 9-year-old Zerick Ozuna who died near Lake Sherwood

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Forensic Medical has released the autopsy report for 9-year-old Zerick Ozuna, a child killed in the Lake Sherwood neighborhood on June 20. 

According to the autopsy findings, Ozuna had the following injuries:

  • Two stab wounds to the chest
    • injuring the heart and left lung
  • An abrasion of the head behind the right ear
  • A small abrasion on the neck
  • Small contusion of the left shin
  • Two hemorrhages of the scalp

According to the autopsy report released on Friday, the 9-year-old was located inside a house by his grandmother on a bed covered in blood. The child was suffering from multiple wounds to the chest and neck. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Forensic Medical of Kansas determined the cause of Ozuna's death was stab wounds to the chest. They said the manner of death was homicide.

According to a report obtained by 27 News through a Kansas Open Records Act request in July Ozuna's mother, Shyla M. Goracke, 29 killed him in an act of intentional and premeditated first degree murder.

Goracke died at a Kansas City hospital four days later.
