Details on The City in NBA 2K25

With NBA 2K25 dropping next week, the latest Courtside Report provides an insight into what to expect from The City. For anyone who is unaware, The City is the open world hub of MyCAREER that was introduced in NBA 2K21 New Gen, expanding on the concept of The Neighborhood.

As someone who has been critical of The City in the past, it does appear that NBA 2K25 has made a couple of improvements based on gamer feedback. As previously mentioned in the MyCAREER Courtside Report, MyCOURT is making a welcome return. The City has also been condensed, with fewer buildings that serve no purpose.

The connected modes also feature ranked and unranked areas, with overhauled aesthetics. Classic parks will return as part of Seasonal events, and there are new stomping grounds for the Rise and Elite park affiliations. A squad finder has been added, the Streetball sidequest returns, and the Rep system is also back.

That’s just a brief overview, as I’ve summarised the key points from the NBA 2K25 Courtside Report on The City below. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments, and jump into the discussion here in the Forum!

NBA 2K25 Courtside Report Recap: The City

  • The map has been condensed, in order for all of the game modes, shops, etc to feel more connected and accessible. Nearly every building can be interacted with.
  • Modes, shops, and the returning MyCOURT are located on the Boulevard of Stars, in the heart of The City.
  • As usual, The City is adorned by murals and artwork that celebrate basketball, right down to the lamp posts.
  • A Walk of Fame showcases every NBA champion to date, and will be updated as new champs are crowned in MyCAREER.
  • Proving Grounds is the new home for ranked/heightened competition, with 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, and 5v5 games, all of which earn the highest Rep.
  • There are five Proving Grounds tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. Playing well and winning levels up, playing poorly and losing will result in dropping down to a lower tier.
  • These tiers influence matchmaking, pitting gamers against competition of a similar level. Higher tiers also grant perks such as additional Rep and bonus XP in wins.
  • Each tier is unique per game type per Season, with your best rank being saved. Leaderboards will track the top 100 ranked players per game type.
  • The Rec, Theater, Pro-Am, Starting 5, and Ante-Up all return, and do not affect your ranking. However, they still earn Rep, XP, and rewards.
  • Ante-Up has been redesigned with a marble aesthetic, The Rec is now filled with fans, and a full-sized arena can be earned for Pro-Am squads that reach the Platinum tier.
  • As mentioned, MyCOURT returns, allowing for private shootarounds and games with friends and MyCAREER teammates. MyCOURT now also features difficulty settings so that you can practice for specific modes of play.
  • MyCOURT can be personalised with murals that are earned through quests, and any game-worn jerseys that you earn will also be displayed here.
  • Once again, the Elite and Rise affiliations are led by LD2K and ShakeDown respectively. Elite’s home area includes a pirate ship, while Rise’s stomping grounds are a robot factory. The courts are closer together to get gamers into the action quicker.
  • Information kiosks outside of game mode buildings will provide an explanation of what they entail, and what skill level they’re targeted at.
  • The Squad Finder helps gamers locate other gamers to play with. Criteria includes squad size, style of play, performance, Overall Rating, whether or not they’re mic’d up, and Park affiliation.
  • Streetball returns as a sidequest campaign against the CPU, but also now includes co-op play with up to two friends.
  • The Sunset Beach, Rivet City, urban Old Town, and Old Town aircraft carrier parks return as events, and will debut during Seasons 1-4 beginning with the OG Old Town park at the end of Season 1. The parks have all been remastered for New Gen.
  • The year-long Rep system includes five tiers: Rookie 1-5, Starter 1-5, Veteran 1-5, and Legend 1-5. Each tier will unlock new rewards.
  • A fast travel subway can quickly take you to Triple Threat Park in MyTEAM.
  • Limited Edition is a new shop featuring – as the name would imply – a revolving selection of premium clothing items.
  • The Gatorade Gym is now an open-area workout platform on the beach, with courts featuring Gatorade Boosts and Rep bonuses.
  • After unlocking Rebirth at 90 Overall, any new MyPLAYERs that you create will automatically have the maximum potential that you’ve previously attained (but not the ratings to reach that Overall), with any Silver level Badges automatically unlocked when the qualifying ratings are reached.
  • The Track features racing mini-games, with tracks and physics designed by the team behind Lego 2K. Each week there will be a 1 Million VC prize for the first place finisher.
  • There are new Teammote dances that are synced to music and used to show off.
