Community Beat for 30 August

What's that you see? Tis but another community beat! Your fortnightly dose of community creations and activity across the universe in what you've all been up to and what you've shared. Let's get stuck in!

Set sail for a BIGAB adventure!

History plays a lot in the average EVE player's life. The longer we play, the greater the things we learn and the more courage and confidence we carry into familiar scenarios. When we're comfortable to learn more, we explore those opportunities and expand our knowledge further. Video maker Sven Bauer shared a video they made of their one year in Deepwater Hooligans, achieving 4000 kills! Highlighting 8 of their favourite moments across the year into a single video, it's assembled in a storytelling manner, giving a bit of background to each moment, sharing fleet comms and an excellent selection of epic tunes!

We hope next year is equally filled with more epic moments for Sven!

FLEET AAR, reconstructed circa YC126, colourized

Speaking of Art, many of us know what a battle report looks like, right? A classic series of columns collected by groups/coalitions/alliances with results in each. Usually accompanied by a long wall of text After Action Report (AAR) detailing the happenings during the fight. Well, heralds of some of New Edens's best infographic newsletters, Minmatar Fleet, decided to break with tradition and produce an AAR.. with green army men, little toy soldiers.. throw in a few metaphors for tanks, wrecks and artillery, naturally, a bit of the latest VFX, explosions and boom, you've got a recreation of their defence of the "Watermelon Fortizar" against RMC/ABSO.

Genuinely, it is one of the more unique ways we've seen telling a story. I look forward to seeing what new and unexpected way someone goes to tell the next story.

It's not an explosion; It's just a Rapid, Unscheduled, DissasEmbly

Another entry here is for another finely crafted creation. We've featured some of the community pixel art here in the past, and another recent creation hit our radar.

JustThatLuke over on Reddit from the aptly named "Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly." ( [-RUDE] for short) made a gif for representing their "fighting of the multi-boxing menace" of Pochven by way of recruiting more to their efforts. We wish the best of luck in their efforts and hope to see more of these telling tales!

SL0W Spreadsheets at work

From one kind of art to another - Spreadsheets! We're EVE players, and whilst we have some fantastic 3rd party development tools made by our community to help fill the gaps for managing large swathes of data management, there is always that daunting moment when a new Alliance starts to expand and has to consider beginning to track and manage their space to optimise and get the maximum out of it. With Equinox's new structures and upgrades, managing numbers for Skyhook outputs per system is also essential to know what you can install in your space. Those over in SL0W CHILDREN AT PLAY have you covered! Assembling a couple of spreadsheets as templates to get you started in your planning and a video guide to help you understand the spreadsheet function in every way you'd need. So if you're looking at an area of space and thinking, "Nice space, we'll take it", don't let the thought of organising put you off anymore!

EVE North East - 12-15 September - Galway, NY, USA

A shoutout for EVE North East this year as well, which is coming up soon! The whole community team are fans of EVE meets. We all try to get to as many as possible yearly because they're always fun. There's nothing quite like sharing a few drinks with EVE players and hearing tales of their victories (and epic failures). Eve North East is the same, except it has the bonus of having campfire sound effects and the tasty aromas of hot food included. If you're in the area, grab a ticket and check it out.

Alliance Tournament XX continues - A handy explainer!

Lastly, the first weekend of the feeder tournament for Alliance Tournament XX was this previous weekend, and it all concludes this coming weekend when we see which 28 teams make it through to the main tournament in October! Previous CSM member, tournament veteran and one of the talent selected this year to help cover the tournament, Ali Aras, assembled a video outlining some of the basics to help you understand what you're seeing on the screen during one of the broadcasts.

EVE tournaments are social events where you can get friends together to cheer on some of the people and alliances across the new Eden and potentially win a few SKINS whilst you're there. So getting someone new to EVE to have a watch of this video, will help get them on board with understanding what's going on!

We look forward to seeing you again this weekend on Twitch from 15:45 UTC on Saturday, 31 August, when we open with Rusty Hyenas Clan playing off against Paper Numbers!

That's it for this edition of the Community Beat; we'll see you all again in the next one!
