Man United confirm £25.7m transfer of United academy star, 10% sell-on clause retained

Manchester United have officially confirmed the departure of midfielder Scott McTominay.

McTominay has joined Napoli in a deal worth £25.7 million with United retaining a 10 per cent sell-on fee as part of the agreement.

Man United have released a statement on his transfer: “McTominay will be missed by everyone at the club and leaves with our best wishes as he embarks on a new chapter of his career in Italy.

“Good luck, Scott, arrivederci and thank you for the fabulous memories.”

The Scotland international made his debut against Arsenal in 2017. He featured 255 times for the Red Devils after coming through the ranks.

West Ham United were interested in signing him last summer but Erik ten Hag opted to retain him.

The United Academy product truly repaid the faith placed in him with his most stellar season to date.

He netted ten goals including crucial braces against Brentford and Chelsea last term.

McTominay has played under various United managers, each of whom has sung his praises.

Despite not being the most technically gifted player, his exceptional attitude and relentless work ethic set him apart.

He is one of the few United players who know what it means to play for this big club.

He embodies the spirit and dedication that every player coming through the United ranks aspires to.

Ten Hag expressed his mixed feelings on McTominay’s departure to Napoli. He has been a pivotal player and his absence will be duly felt.

As a homegrown player, any proceeds from his sale will be considered pure profit, providing a significant boost to United’s financial records.

His transfer will also pave the way for United to sign Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain.
