The Chiefs are focused on being the best version of themselves, not a 3-peat

The Chiefs are trying to do something historic in 2024.

It has never happened in over 100 years.

This isn’t quite true, but it sounds cooler that way. So let me live.

Next season the NFL returns and it all begins with the Kansas City Chiefs kicking off their two-time title defense. As winners of Super Bowls LVII and LVIII (not to mention LIV) the Chiefs are looking to become the first team in league history to win three Super Bowls in a row.

To be clear the league itself is over 100 years old, but obviously the Super Bowl isn’t quite there. It all feels relevant and safe though seeing as the season when the league celebrated its 100th anniversary was when Kansas City first broke through in the Patrick Mahomes era.

If it isn’t obvious we are talking about a team that is squarely in the middle of a dynasty. Going for a third title in a row and a fourth overall is a rare opportunity that many people don’t get the chance to undertake in any level of sports.

You would think that the Chiefs themselves would be tired of hearing about it all by now, at least that’s what I thought. Center Creed Humphrey was kind enough to join me for a conversation on Friday and I joked about how I wouldn’t ask any questions about it, assuming he had spoken about it enough already. He took that in good spirits and noted that he was fine discussing it, but that it wasn’t a big deal. This season is another year where the Chiefs are trying to be just as good as they always have been.

You can watch our conversation on the Blogging The Boys YouTube Channel and below:

It is an annoying thing when we make up more reasons why dynasties are awesome, but I am afraid that the way Creed handled this makes me think even more of the way that Kansas City operates and has done so throughout this run.

They do not get fazed. They are calm, cool and collected. Success is normal. It is expected. There is no fear in acknowledging that they are trying to do something historic. They do not have the scars that most sports fans do. They walk through the fires of this game that have burned us all many times over.

It is impossible and amazing all at the same time. I left our conversation even more impressed with the way their organization runs. Creed rocked and I am grateful to him that he took some time to speak with us.

Additionally I am grateful to Sleep Number, who made the interview possible.

Sleep Number is the Official Sleep + Wellness Partner of the NFL, and currently 80% of the League benefit from the improved sleep performance on Sleep Number smart beds.

Creed has been on a smart bed since his rookie year, so he knows how high-quality sleep can enhance his recovery to perform at his best on the field.

Creed just visited a Sleep Number store to check out some of the latest models and learn more about the technology.

Sleep Number’s Biggest Sale of the Year is happening now. You can take up to 50% off smart beds. The sale is live now at SleepNumber.com and runs through Labor Day weekend.

This is going to be a fascinating season for the Chiefs and I am very excited to watch it all unfold.
