BE SAFETY COMPLIANT, MOJOLA TELLS MANUFACTURING COMPANIES

The Director-General, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola has implored stakeholders and practitioners in the manufacturing sector to be safety-compliant.

Mojola gave the advice at a one-day training programme tagged: “Comprehensive Occupational Safety and Health, Machinery and Practice Training in Manufacturing Companies in Lagos State”.

The Director-General, who was represented at the event by Engr. Albert Oyatoye, said the event is undoubtedly one of the cornerstones of the economy, driving growth, creating jobs and contributing significantly to the prosperity of Lagos State as well as the manufacturing sector prone to high risk.
.
According to him, “The machinery, tools and processes that power our industries, if not properly managed, can lead to accidents with dire consequences. Common accidents in manufacturing companies, such as machinery, injuries, falls, exposure to hazardous substances, and electrical accidents, are constant reminders of the importance of safety and the need for continuous vigilance”.

He maintained that the impact of these accidents is not only felt by the individuals directly involved but also by their families, the companies and indeed, the wider society.

“The loss of lives or limbs, the psychological trauma and the economic loss are burdens that we cannot bear if they can be prevented. This is why today’s training is paramount”

He noted that safety in manufacturing is not merely a legal obligation, but a moral imperative and a business necessity, adding that when safety is prioritised, productivity increases, employee morale improves and the overall sustainability of the business is enhanced.

He added that the Commission remains steadfast in its commitment towards ensuring safety compliance across all sectors, with a particular focus on high-risk industries like manufacturing companies.
