Columbus police investigating 'suspicious' fatal shooting in Hilltop

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A teenaged girl is dead after a reported shooting in west Columbus late Wednesday night.

According to Columbus police, officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 500 block of South Eureka Avenue in the Hilltop just after 10:30 p.m. A person who called in the emergency said a female accidentally shot herself inside the residence.

Police found a juvenile female victim suffering from a gunshot wound and she was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. She was pronounced dead soon afterward at 11:10 p.m.

A gun was found at the scene and homicide detectives were called to investigate after police said the shooting included suspicious circumstances. Police did not say if there are any suspects, though the investigation remains ongoing.
