Sacked Coronation Street star Sean Wilson reveals surprising new job after he’s suddenly axed as Martin Platt
CORONATION Street star Sean Wilson has landed a surprising new job after he was given the chop from the soap.
Sean, 59, was left shocked in the summer when Corrie bosses told him they were axing his character Martin Platt.

But in the wake of his axing, Sean has now landed himself a brand new and somewhat surprising gig.
Sean is hitting the road in the new year with telly chef and Cooking With The Stars pro Rosemary Shrager for an exciting stage show.
The star now runs a successful cheese company and will be joining Rosemary for a live tour called Posh Teas & Artisan Cheese.
The blurb for their show says: “The first half of their show will consist of chat and an audience Q&A, taking questions from the audience, while the second half will be a cook-off, in which the two chalk-and-cheese experts will showcase their succulent skills, with mouth-watering recipes and hot tips that the audience can try at home.”
Posh Teas & Artisan Cheese hits the road in February and visits various locations around the UK.
Guests can also sample freshly made ‘Authentic Stone Baked Italian Pizzas’ before every show.
The Sun exclusively revealed in August that Sean had been dropped from Coronation Street having already filmed scenes.
He had been brought back as part of Helen Worth’s massive exit storyline, which will see her much-loved character Gail Platt bow out this Christmas.
Coronation Street did not offer an explanation for Sean’s sudden axing, simply insisting he had “stepped down for personal reasons”.
None of his scenes with Helen, who was said to be thrilled by her on-screen ex-husband’s reprisal, will be aired when she leaves the cobbles after a whopping 50 years.
Sean originally left his role as Martin Platt in Corrie in 2005 and later retrained as a chef.
He briefly reprised his role in 2018 when Martin said goodbye to his son David and relocated to New Zealand.
Weeks after news broke of his sudden axing in August this year, Sean was spotted looking downcast with his girlfriend Carol Hammond as they walked close to the Corrie set.
A source at the time said: “It has come as a complete and utter shock to everyone – and his sudden exit has rocked everyone involved with Corrie.
“Sean was loving his time on the show, and he was very popular on set.
Coronation Street's 2024 shock exits
Corrie has said goodbye to several cast members this year. Let's break down who's left the famous soap:
Eliza Woodrow (Savannah Kunyo) has said farewell to Corrie to start a new life in Germany.
The youngster moved to live with her dad Dom Everett, who went back on the £10,000 bribe Eliza’s grandfather Stu had offered to keep him out of her life.
Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) will bow out of the soap this summer when he loses his fight with motor neurone disease (MND) in tragic scenes.
After being diagnosed last year, the fan favourite was devastated to learn he only had months left to live.
Viewers know he is planning to take his own life to end his suffering.
Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) departed the cobbles after being offered the opportunity of a lifetime to study in America.
Though she struggled to decide with her stepdad Paul’s impending death from MND, she was convinced she had to live her life to the full.
Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) has struggled with the sudden departure of his father Peter from the cobbles.
The Weatherfield legend left his family and loved ones behind on Boxing Day, 2023, when his wife Carla Connor encouraged him to travel around the world with a friend.
Simon’s been on a downward spiral ever since and his exit could end in tragedy.
Alya Nazir is set to leave the cobbles as actress Sair Khan prepares to go on maternity leave ahead of the birth of her first child.
It looks likely she’ll be heading to Dublin after securing a lucrative new job, leaving her colleague and fling Adam Barlow behind.
Show stalwart Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen Grimshaw, is taking a break to star in the Sister Act The Musical UK tour. She will be back filming in May once her dates on the tour come to an end.
Her character left the Street after her son Jason broke his back after falling off a moped in Asia.
“He had filmed scenes with loads of the cast, but then suddenly he was summoned to head office, and later it filtered out he wouldn’t be returning or his scenes airing, but no explanation offered.”
Sean has been keeping himself busy, however.
Along with prepping for his tour with former I’m A Celeb star Rosemary, he has been showing off his own impressive artwork on X -formerly known as Twitter.
His bio also reads: “After 21 years of Corrie as Martin Platt- making award winning cheese and TV Presenter.”
