How Mac Jones Reacted To Terrifying Dirty Hit On Trevor Lawrence

Mac Jones’ return to the Jacksonville Jaguars bench proved to be brief.

Jones was relegated to backup duties when Trevor Lawrence overcame his shoulder injury and started the Jags’ Week 13 game. Lawrence was forced back out of action before halftime, though, as a brutal hit to the head from Azeez Al-Shaair resulted in the 2021 No. 1 overall pick leaving TIAA Bank Field on a cart.

The violent collision prompted a heated squabble between the AFC South rivals, as well as Jones’ entry into Sunday’s showdown. The former New England Patriot turned in an admirable effort — he completed 20 of 32 pass attempts for 235 yards with two touchdowns — but Jacksonville ultimately fell 23-20.

After the game, Jones weighed in on the tense scene and the Jaguars’ response.

“Sports are very emotional, especially when something like that happens,” Jones told reporters, per a video shared by Action Sports Jax. “We definitely came together as a team and fought hard for Trevor. We came up short at the end, but I feel like the guys responded. Obviously, Trevor’s safety is most important. But yeah, I feel like we moved forward and tried to win it for Trevor.”

Lawrence suffered a concussion from Al-Shaair’s hit, but the 25-year-old did share an encouraging update on his status Sunday evening. With Lawrence on the mend, Jones is set to make his third Jaguars start Sunday when Jacksonville visits Tennessee.
