Colts Continue Winning Streak in D4 Derby
The Colts continued their unbeaten run following a 27-26 win over Old Belvedere. The Colts started bright when a penalty try was awarded for bringing down a maul illegally to put them 7-0 up after 2 minutes. A second try followed shortly after through Jamie Fish scoring in the corner making it 12-0 after 10 minutes.
However, the 1st half was then dominated by Belvedere who deservedly found themselves ahead at half time with the score at 12-14. Following the restart, Wesley found themselves back ahead 17-14, this time through number 8 Tom Power who crashed over from 5 metres. Belvedere responded almost immediately and once again Wesley found themselves trailing after another try, this time by only 2 points 17-19. Old Wesley once again worked back up the pitch to score again this time hooker Zach Furlong going over after some clever work from scrum half Charlie Kennedy and fly half Ben Wiseman. 22-19. Ill discipline in the last 10 minutes gave Belvedere one last chance, as they sniped at the breakdown and went over for their final score of the game making it 22-26 with minutes to go.
The Colts were able to get good field position off the restart, winning a penalty and opting for the corner, a brilliant take in the air from captain Jake Brownell set the maul which was brought down short, but close range specialist Christopher Gilmer somehow found a way over the Belvedere line to take the win for the home-side. Final score 27-26.
