Model’s £2,000 Christmas gift stolen within 10 minutes of her buying them

A model had a new pair of shoes worth up to £2,000 stolen from her just 10 minutes after buying them in Selfridges.

Kenza Boutrif, 23, bought brand new Chanel loafers whilst shopping at the luxury central London store last Monday.

The model said she took her eyes off her bags, which she had placed directly in front of her, while she started to try on a jacket.

She told Tiktok: ‘I went to Selfridges and bought new Chanel loafers which I have wanted for so long. I bought them, I was so happy.

‘I look away for a few seconds to grab the item of clothing, and my bag is gone.

‘Imagine just buying something and getting it stolen within 10 minutes of buying it. It’s getting real slimy out here.’

The shoes, which aren’t advertised directly on the Selfridges website, can be sold at other UK outlets for up to £2,000.

Kenza said she told security about the theft, but they replied ‘it happens all the time’.

She is now warning Londoners it ‘isn’t worth shopping in the city’ anymore due to the level of crime.

She added: ‘London is getting scarier and scarier to live in. I didn’t take it in all the videos warning of crime in London until it happened to me.

‘London is not a real place at the minute. In fact, don’t even leave your house it’s not even worth it.

One Tiktok user commented: ‘It happened to me in Harrods. I bought sneakers from Balmain, I paid £1,075.

‘I just took my eyes off the bag for five seconds to drink water. That’s it, it’s gone.’

Selfridges said: ‘We are unable to comment on specific customer cases for reasons of confidentiality.

‘We have robust security measures in place across our stores to ensure the safety and security of our customers, and work closely with the police and authorities to support their work in the west end and beyond.’ 

The Metropolitan Police said: ‘Police are investigating following an alleged theft at a department store in Oxford Street, Westminster last week.

‘Police received a report that a brand new pair of designer shoes, purchased from one of the concession stands within the store, had been stolen from a woman while she was still inside.

‘The incident is alleged to have occurred at approximately 18:00hrs on Monday, 2 December.

‘Officers have made contact with the victim, a 23-year-old woman, to further the investigation.’

It comes as thieves continue to target tourists who have visited the capital for Christmas.

Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland has already been hit by pickpockets, after one woman had £500 worth of gadgets stolen from her.

Charlie Hernan travelled all the way from Plymouth to visit Winter Wonderland on Friday with her boyfriend Sam when she had £500 filming equipment taken from her.

She told Metro: ‘I brought my GoPro and bought a new modification and memory card just the day before for my Youtube channel.

‘I was filming my boyfriend near a ride, put the camera in my pocket and when I went to take it back out 30 seconds later, it was gone.’

Between March 2023 and 2024, the Metropolitan Police received more than 79,000 reports of pickpockets.

Some 28,155 were reported in Westminster, with one in seven people in the area having something – mainly mobile phones – stolen from them.

This marks a 712% increase in the area from three years ago, and is by far the highest rate of thefts across the capital.
