Champions Trophy 2025 to be held in 20-over format? ICC’ makes the decision due to THIS reason
The cricket world is still quite confused by the drama regarding Champions Trophy, where three of the parties are entangled with no solution in sight. Even though time is running out for a competition that is less than 75 days away, the International Cricket Council (ICC), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have failed to reach an agreement.
Earlier, there was hope and people were expecting that the final schedule for the marquee event will get announced on December 11 (Wednesday). However, the wait only continues as ICC provided no update on the matter. Adding to that, there are no signs of the ICC Board members meeting which was originally planned for December 7.
There was no sort of any agreement on the ways to run the tournament, there was no other option than the virtual meeting to get postponed. Ever since that meeting postponed, it did not get called again.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, there was some doubt about the tournament’s structure at first. However, the issue is not with the current ICC occurrence, but it is regarding the occurrences in the future. The 15-match tournament is leaning towards a hybrid model, with 10 games set to be held in Pakistan and possibly 5 more matches to be held in Dubai.
The BCCI’s decision’s to not accept the request of Pakistan for the same format to be used in India hosting the international events for the upcoming three years is the main obstacle that comes in the way of coming out with a definitive solution for the issue.
Champions Trophy to be held in T20 format:
The Cricbuzz report also states that ICC is already behind in completing its contracted duties to the stakeholders, especially when it comes to sticking to the deadline. The broadcasters are also under pressure to market the event, especially since the 90-day deadline has gone by. There is a slight possibility that some stakeholders make some calls to change the Champions Trophy to a T20 format, which is easier to market as compered to the other format.
