The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced Bulgaria’s donation of 30,000 euros to Afghanistan.

In a message on Thursday, December 12, OCHA confirmed that this amount was donated to Afghanistan’s Humanitarian Fund for 2024.

OCHA emphasized that such donations are critical for responding to emergencies and saving lives in Afghanistan.

The organization also noted that of the $3.6 billion needed to assist the people of Afghanistan, only $958 million has been received so far.

Meanwhile, the World Food Programme had previously warned that over 14 million people in Afghanistan will need urgent assistance this coming winter.

It is important to note that more than three years after the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan, the citizens of the country are becoming increasingly impoverished.

The ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan continues to demand significant international support. Despite some contributions like Bulgaria’s donation, the gap between the required and received aid remains wide, leaving millions vulnerable.

As winter approaches, the urgency for increased funding and assistance is even greater. Without sustained and expanded international aid, the situation for many Afghan families could worsen, making it imperative for the global community to prioritize humanitarian support.
