‘Here we go’ - Fabrizio Romano: Man Utd reach verbal agreement for summer signing
Manchester United have reached a verbal agreement to sign Cerro Porteno left-back Diego Leon in July 2025, according to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Red Devils will part with an initial £3.2 million for the services of the 17-year-old Paraguayan, while a further £3.6m could be paid in add-ons.
Man United were not the only Premier League club that wanted Leon as both Arsenal and Manchester City were also keen on recruiting the services of the teenage South American sensation.
However, the Old Trafford club have pipped fierce competition to him and head coach Ruben Amorim will hope Leon can make an instant impact in the first-team and hit the ground running in 2025-26.
The youngster has already established himself as a key player for the Paraguayan top-flight side and will fancy his chances of moving ahead of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia in the pecking order within a couple of months after his arrival.
Man United have had to largely rely on Diogo Dalot as their left wing-back in recent games, while Malacia is being gradually introduced into action after his return from a long-term injury.
However, the attacking qualities of Leon make him a perfect fit for the position, and Amorim could do with such a talent within his squad.
He has two goals in 19 Paraguayan Primera Division appearances this year and has been widely tipped to become one of the best players in his division given his all-round qualities.
Leon boasts a solid goalscoring instinct and technical skills on the ball, and he will be given the chance to prove himself given that Amorim never hesitates to hand youngsters opportunities if they are good enough.
Landing him ahead of the next summer transfer window makes sense given the number of suitors keeping tabs on him, and it could be a deal that ends up proving huge for Man United.
