Channel 4 reveals huge change to streaming app as telly fans cry ‘never thought I’d see the day’

CHANNEL 4 has finally launched its streaming app on a popular device used by millions after years of outcry from viewers.

The broadcaster has been missing from Google TV, making it tricky for viewers to watch shows on-demand from a number of common gadgets.

It remained missing from the Chromecast replacement, the Google TV Streamer, when the new kit was unveiled over the summer.

But Channel 4 has now launched on Google TV.

Users noticed it had quietly started to appear on the platform’s search a few weeks ago.

Channel 4 told The Sun its app is available on Chromecast with Google TV and the new Google TV Streamer today.

And it’ll be available on all Google TV devices in the coming weeks.

“Never thought I’d see the day,” one watch wrote on Reddit.

“Wow about time lol now the official Xbox app please,” another commented.

Much like existing Channel 4 apps on mobile and Fire Stick, viewers can access the broadcaster’s library of catch up shows and box sets.

But live streams of all their channels are missing for the moment – those are expected to be added in 2025.

“With our app’s availability on Google TV we’re giving more viewers more ways to watch,” said Karla Berry, Head of Distribution & Partnerships at Channel 4.

“Today’s launch also opens up further commercial opportunities for Channel 4 by enhancing the audience we can reach with tailored advertising.

“Over the coming months viewers can expect to see us continue to enhance our streaming presence across multiple platforms.”

The move comes as Channel 4 boosts its focus on digital, becoming the first UK broadcaster to launch a dedicated app for the Apple Vision Pro.

The Sun’s tech editor Sean Keach tried out the headset – read our Apple Vision Pro review – and said it was “better than being at the cinema”.

His review concluded: “Wearing the Apple Vision Pro feels like you’re trying a gadget that won’t exist for another 10 years.

“But it does exist, and it’s extremely cool – if you have have the requisite dosh.”

The problem for Apple and its fans is that the headset costs a mammoth £3,499 in the UK (and $3,499 in the US), which prices out most buyers.

But rumours suggest that Apple may be working on a cheaper model behind closed doors – although there’s no official confirmation of that.

For now, you’ll need to fork out for a headset – or try one for free at an Apple Store.
