How many cannabis shops are in the Capital Region?
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- As of December 10, the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) reported that New York currently had 261 adult-use retail cannabis stores. OCM said that's a big increase considering there were about two dozen stores open in December 2023.
But how many of these stores are in the Capital Region and where are they located? NEWS10 put together this interactive map of all the cannabis shops in the area.
The one green marker on the map is a cannabis dispensary that has not opened yet. In total, the Capital Region currently has 39 recreational cannabis dispensaries, a majority of which opened in 2024.
Here's a breakdown of how many cannabis dispensaries are located in each municipality:
- Albany: 5
- Colonie: 5
- Schenectady: 4
- Troy: 3
- Halfmoon: 3
- Latham: 2
- Saratoga Springs: 2
- Hudson: 2
- Cohoes: 1
- Menands: 1
- Rensselaer: 1
- Brunswick: 1
- Waterford: 1
- Greenfield Center: 1
- Hudson Falls: 1
- Glens Falls: 1
- Schodack: 1
- Coxsackie: 1
- Catskill: 1
- Greenwich: 1
- Amsterdam: 1
Felicia A.B. Reid, OCM’s acting Executive Director, said New York State could handle having around 2,000 cannabis shops. When asked if there is a goal on how many stores OCM would like to open next year, Reid said, “As many as possible. Within reason and within analysis of the market.”
