NFL Star Recounts Wild Ayahuasca Experience With Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers hasn't been shy about his psychedelic use and its benefits in his life. In his new docuseries Aaron Rodgers: Enigma, the New York Jets quarterback chronicles his experience in Costa Rica with other NFL players including Chicago Bears safety Adrian Colbert. Now, Colbert is opening up about the once-in-a-lifetime trip.
The 31-year-old spoke to TMZ on Dec. 18 about how it all went down. Jordan Poyer of the Miami Dolphins organized the adventure, which Colbert was invited to last year but couldn't make it.
"He did [coach me], and the biggest thing from Aaron was just to surrender, and I think that kind of plays in life in general, you know, surrender to control, especially with the things that aren't within you," he said. "It was one of the easiest things for me to lean into, especially with him having the experience that he did in sitting with medicine and the influence that has in being the person that he is."
Even though Colbert had only just met Rodgers on this trip, the two athletes were able to form a quick connection while under the influence.
"I really got to see him in the spirit and just free flowing and it inspired me to, like he had said, surrender to control, surrender to love, and once I did that, my experience with the medicine completely went through the roof and it got me to a place where I am today: A spirit of love."
"I was once driven off of anger and 'How can I prove other people wrong for doubting me?' But now, I come from a place of love—my love for the game, my love for the people that I'm around, my love for how much I've put into it within my body and my mind to be able to gout here and get this opportunity," he continued. "Being that I earned this opportunity, I can love the fact that I do this."
Aaron Rodgers: Enigma is streaming now on Netflix.
