Terrorist attack was being planned in one of Kazakhstan's prisons
Tengrinews.kz - On November 22, the National Security Committee (NSC), in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and under the coordination of the prosecutor's office of Almaty region, disrupted the activities of 10 supporters of radical religious ideology in correctional facilities in the Almaty, Kostanay, and Zhetysu regions, according to the NSC press service.
Preliminary findings indicate that one of the individuals was planning a terrorist attack while incarcerated, while others were involved in promoting terrorism and recruiting individuals for terrorist activities.
"Searches conducted in the penal institutions seized edged weapons, smartphones, and other material evidence. One individual had been convicted for extremism, while others were serving sentences for murder, robbery, and theft. Additionally, an accomplice under probationary control was detained in Almaty," the statement said.
A pre-trial investigation has been initiated under three articles of the Criminal Code.
