Is drinking tea on an empty stomach safe? Here's what doctors think

Tengrinews.kz - Drinking tea on an empty stomach can negatively impact your health, according to Riamo.
Gastroenterologist Evgeny Belousov explained that green and black tea can irritate the stomach lining, potentially causing discomfort or even pain. Weight-loss and detox teas pose a greater risk to the digestive system, as they often contain herbs or extracts that can be harsh on the stomach.

"Tea, especially those containing caffeine, stimulates acid production in the stomach, which is highly undesirable for people with sensitive digestive systems," the doctor noted.

To prevent problems, it is recommended to drink tea after meals, when the stomach is protected by food. Belousov also advises opting for gentle herbal teas, such as chamomile, mint, or lemon balm. These caffeine-free teas have a soothing effect and are safe even for sensitive stomachs.
Previously, a gastroenterologist revealed the foods that may harm your stomach after reaching 40-50 years old.
