Bibiano to face Perez for IBF title in Shizuoka!

We've known for a while that "3150×LUSH BOMU vol.3" on December 21st at the Twin Messe Shizuoka, in Shizuoka, was going to be an exciting show, featuring a number of promising Japanese fighters in solid step up fights. It had been confirmed earlier this month that both Ryusei Moriwaki (2-0, 2) [森脇流星] would be up against Mexican Salvador Juarez (19-9-2, 4) and that Aoi Yokoyama (1-0, 1) [横山葵海] would face Denmark Quibido (13-3-2, 7) in two very good looking match ups.

We also learned more recently that the card would feature Kyonosuke Kameda (14-3-1, 8) [亀田京之介], who faces Angelo Beltran (10-2, 8) and Mitsuro Brandon Tajima (10-1, 8) [但馬ブランドン ミツロ]. against a yet to be named opponent..

Today the most notable bout on the card was announced as a press conference in Japan, confirming rumours of a world title fight landing on the show. The announcement was that Tomoki Kameda’s (42-4, 23) [亀田和毅] close friend Rene Calixto Bibiano (23-0, 9) would be getting his first world title shot, taking on Willibaldo Garcia Perez (22-5-1-1, 13), for the vacant IBF Super Flyweight title.

That became vacant when Fernando Daniel Martinez (17-0, 9) chose to rematch Kazuto Ioka (31-3-1, 16) [井岡一翔], a bout that will take place on New Year’s Eve, rather than make a mandatory defense of the IBF belt.

Bibiano, a relative unknown on the world stage, has been friends with Kamea since the two were teenagers, with Kameda essentially inspiring Bibiano to take the sport seriously when Kameda was 18 and Bibiano was 14. Since then Bibiano has had an impressive career, winning 23 in a row including 2 wins in Japan with 1 coming against the touted Hayate Hanada (2-1-1, 1) [花田颯]. This is however a notable step up in class for him, and should be his stiffest test to date. As for Perez, who is also getting his first world title bout, he has been in the mix in and around world level. After 3 losses his first 8 months as a professional he has only lost twice, both razor thin decisions, to Alexandro Santiago and Paul Butler, both of whom have held world titles. In that time he has gone from 1-3-0-1 to 22-5-1-1.

Rather notably this will be a somewhat rare Japanese All-Mexican World title bout, and despite being a world title bout it will not actually be the main event according to the current running order, with that being Yokoyama’s bout.

The show will also feature the in form Kenbun Torres (15-5, 10), who looks to build on wins over Reymart Gaballo and KJ Cataraja, as he takes on the struggling Nattapong Jankaew (13-4, 9), who has lost 4 of his last 7, and been stopped in 3 of those 4 losses.

Having mentioned Tomoki Kameda’s name earlier, it’s worth noting he was at the press conference for the bout and hinted at future plans. He is the current mandatory challenger for the IBF Featherweight title, held by Angelo Leo (25-1, 12), and the plans seem to revolve around that bout, which is expected to take place next year.
