To the editor: Public schools enhance Democracy

The article entitled “Parents must end teachers unions grip on education,” Monday, has it all if you’re a right-wing conservative. It’s anti-union, anti-teacher, and anti-government. Wrap this up in a ball and use it to attack public education as it now exists while seeming to support parents. But the truth is, it aims at producing an elitist society where real education, free of right-wing ideology, and the same old inequalities that existed in colonial times before universal education comes back to haunt us.
