Lynn Conway was a trans woman in tech—and underappreciated for decades after she helped launch the computing revolution

Lynn Conway may hold the record for longest delay between being unfairly fired and receiving an apology for it. In 1968, IBM—a company that now covers its logo in a rainbow flag each June for Pride Month—fired Conway when she expressed her intention to transition. She died on June 9, 2024 at age 86. IBM eventually apologized to the now-famous computing expert, but only 52 years later, when Conway was 82 years old.

Southwest monsoon inches northwards; covers Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh

Southwest Monsoon started northwards on Thursday after a 10-day lull, covering parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh and large tracts of Vidarbha, bringing relief to the parched regions that were reeling under hot weather conditions. India Meteorological Department data showed the country has received 17 per cent deficient rainfall than normal this monsoon season -- 77 mm as against the normal of 92.8 mm between June 1 and 20. Government of Meghalaya recognizes best performing young farmers with awards and seed-money

The Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare in Meghalaya awarded cash prizes to eight Best Performing candidates under the 'Training of Rural Educated Youth for Self-Employment on Farm-Based Activities' (TREYSEFA) program. The Minister for Agriculture, Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh, commended the candidates and highlighted the importance of supporting farmers. Maqbool Suiam, the Principal of BATC, praised the program and its impact on rural youth.
