Tropical Storm Beryl forms in the Atlantic Ocean, blowing toward the Caribbean Sea

Tropical Storm Beryl has formed in the Atlantic Ocean and is forecast to gain strength as it moves into the Caribbean Sea early next week. Beryl is the second named storm in what is predicted to be a busy hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to Nov. 30 in the Atlantic. Tropical Storm Alberto came ashore in northeast Mexico earlier this month with heavy rains that resulted in four deaths. The National Hurricane Center in Miami says Beryl was in the open Atlantic on Friday and moving westward with top winds of 40 mph.

Vietnam economy expands 6.4 percent in first half of year

Vietnam's economy grew by more than six percent in the first half of 2024, government figures showed Saturday, as analysts said more reforms are needed to further boost the economy. Industrial production was up 7.5 percent, while foreign investment increased by 8.2 percent compared to the same period last year, the new figures showed.

Veteran Congress leader D Srinivas passes away

D. Srinivas, former Andhra Pradesh Congress president and minister under YS Rajasekhar Reddy, passed away at 76. He played pivotal roles in state politics, serving as PCC president during the 2004 and 2009 elections.
