Bangladesh refugees 'beaten up, pushed back by BSF' in Lawngtlai

Approximately 140-150 Bangladesh refugees entered Lawngtlai district in Mizoram, with 30 males reportedly beaten by BSF personnel. The refugees, mainly women and children, fled due to ongoing conflicts in Chittagong Hill Tracts. Calls to halt deportation and provide safety in India's refugee camps. Current total of 1,901 refugees in Lawngtlai district.

As crude oil prices rise, rupee falls 5 paise to 83.54 against US dollar

The rupee depreciated 5 paise to 83.54 against the US dollar in early trade on Thursday, weighed down by elevated crude oil prices. Forex traders said a positive trend in domestic equities, wherein benchmark indices touched all-time high levels and significant foreign fund inflows supported the rupee and restricted the fall. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 83.52 and lost further ground to trade at 83.54 against the greenback in initial deals, registering a fall of 5 paise from its previous closing level. Those not under NFSA will now have to pay 30/kg for rice in Mizoram

B Lalchhanzova announced rice for those outside the National Food Security Act at Rs 30 per kg, saving Rs 5,25,93,072 monthly and Rs 63.11 crore annually. The council of ministers ended rice quotas for CM, legislators, and Group 'A' employees. Of 97,000 quintals procured monthly, 37,000 from the Centre, 14,000 at lower cost, and 44,000 at Rs 4,000 a quintal.
