SC appoints ex-CJI U U Lalit as head of committee for appointment of VCs in West Bengal

The Supreme Court has appointed former Chief Justice of India U U Lalit to lead a search-cum-selection committee for appointing vice-chancellors in West Bengal's state-run universities. This decision comes amid ongoing disputes between the West Bengal government and Governor C V Ananda Bose over university administration. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan ordered the formation of the committee within two weeks, which will include five members.
