Govt, UGC launch project to develop 22,000 books in Indian languages

The Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission (UGC) launched a project on Tuesday to develop 22,000 books in Indian languages in the next five years. The project, titled ASMITA (Augmenting Study Materials in Indian Languages through Translation and Academic Writing), was launched by Sanjay Murthy, Secretary, Higher Education, and it will be a collaborative effort of the UGC and the Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti, a high-powered committee under the ministry, to promote Indian languages in education. Assam Govt inks pact with Tata Group to lease over 170 acres of land for semiconductor unit

Assam Government and Tata Group signed a 60-year lease for 170 acres in Morigaon for a Rs. 27,000 crore semiconductor unit at Hindustan Paper Corporation's site. Approved by PM Modi's cabinet, construction starts in 100 days. A Skill Development Centre will co-locate in Jagiroad; the first chip rolls out by 2025. Youth training is ongoing.

L&T Finance Q1 Results: Cons PAT jumps 29% YoY to Rs 686 crore

NBFC firm L&T Finance on Tuesday reported a 29 per cent rise in consolidated net profit to Rs 686 crore for the first quarter ended June 2024 on the back of healthy interest income.
