Researchers map fibrillization process to reveal mechanisms of amyloid polymorphism

Amyloids are protein aggregates that can form in the body, sometimes leading to diseases such as Alzheimer's. These fibrils can adopt multiple shapes, known as "polymorphs," which complicate our understanding of their role in health and disease. The ability to morph into different structures makes them both fascinating and challenging to study.

New ultra-hot Neptune-sized exoplanet discovered

Using NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), an international team of astronomers has detected a new exoplanet. The newfound alien world, designated TOI-3261b, is nearly the size of Neptune and its equilibrium temperature exceeds 1,700 K. The finding was reported in a research paper published July 5 on the pre-print server arXiv.

Study finds increased fire risk on future space missions

A research team from the Center of Applied Space Technology and Microgravity (ZARM) at the University of Bremen has investigated the risk of fire on spacecraft in a recent study. The results show that fires on planned exploration missions, such as a flight to Mars, could spread significantly faster than, for example, on the International Space Station (ISS). This is due to the planned adjustment to a lower ambient pressure on spacecraft.
