Finland extends work requirement for unemployment benefits: New changes to take effect in September

Starting September 2, 2024, Finland will implement significant changes to the eligibility requirements for unemployment benefits, making it more challenging for individuals to qualify for earnings-related daily allowance and basic unemployment allowance. The new rules, passed by the Finnish Parliament, will extend the work requirement from 6 months to 12 months and introduce a new system that calculates eligibility based on monthly earnings rather than weekly working hours.
