Relationships between digital engagement and the mental health of older adults: Evidence from China

by Ziqiong Liu, Ziwei Li

Based on the theory of socio-emotional selectivity, this study examines the effect of digital engagement on the mental health of older individuals using data from the 2018 China Longitudinal Aging Social Survey (CLASS). The results show that digital engagement has a significant effect on the mental health of older individuals, manifested by a decline in depression and an enhancement of cognitive abilities. The results are robust by Using instrumental variables to... Читать дальше...

The prevalence of pain catastrophising in nulliparous women in Nepal; the importance for childbirth

by Carol J. Clark, Sujan Babu Marahatta, Vanora A. Hundley

In Lower-Middle-Income-Countries women are encouraged to present at a birthing facility for skilled care, but attending early can be associated with additional harm. Women admitted in latent labour are more likely to receive a cascade of unnecessary interventions compared with those attending a birthing facility during active labour. One reason that women present early is pain, with higher rates of admission among those who pain catastrophise. Читать дальше...

G-Net: Implementing an enhanced brain tumor segmentation framework using semantic segmentation design

by Chandra Sekaran D. S., Christopher Clement J.

A fundamental computer vision task called semantic segmentation has significant uses in the understanding of medical pictures, including the segmentation of tumors in the brain. The G-Shaped Net architecture appears in this context as an innovative and promising design that combines components from many models to attain improved accuracy and efficiency. In order to improve efficiency, the G-Shaped Net architecture synergistically incorporates four fundamental components... Читать дальше...

Traffic jam by GPS: A systematic analysis of the negative social externalities of large-scale navigation technologies

by Eve Schade, Gian-Luca Savino, Yasemin Gunal, Johannes Schöning

The increased usage of navigation technologies has caused conflicts in local traffic management, resulting in congested residential areas among other challenges for residents. This paper uses content analysis to investigate such negative social externalities within local communities and neighbourhoods. Through a corpus of 90 news articles about traffic incidents caused by navigation technologies, we identified negative traffic and safety-related externalities... Читать дальше...

The impact of internet usage preferences on labor income: Evidence from China

by Kefeng Yuan, Xiaoxia Zhang

Background

The widespread application and iterative updating of computers and Internet communication technologies have not only increased productivity and enhanced intra- and inter-enterprise collaboration, but have also led to significant changes in the labor market and residents’ labor income. In the digital era, accepting digital technology and possessing a certain degree of digital literacy have become the necessary abilities for people to survive and develop. Читать дальше...

Patient experience with hospital care following the Maryland global budget revenue model: A difference-in-difference analysis

by Ronnie L. Shammas, Jenna Li, Evan Matros, Oluseyi Aliu

Introduction

As a result of the success of Maryland’s full risk capitated payment model experiment (Global Budget Revenue) in constraining healthcare costs, there is momentum for expanding the reach of such models. However, as these models are implemented, studies analyzing their long-term effects suggest unintended spillover effects that may ultimately influence patient experiences. The aim of this study was to determine whether... Читать дальше...

Gut microbial composition is altered in sarcopenia: A systematic review and meta-analysis of clinical studies

by Xiaohong Mai, Shuyi Yang, Qifeng Chen, Kangkang Chen

Increasing evidence has shown that gut microbiota (GM) was involved in the pathophysiology of musculoskeletal disorders through multiple pathways such as protein anabolism, chronic inflammation and immunity, and imbalanced metabolism. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of human studies to evaluate GM diversity differences between individuals with and without sarcopenia, and explore bacteria with potential to become biomarkers. Study on decarbonization trajectories and policy implications for China: A comparative analysis of carbon peak nations

by Su Xu, Jun Wang

Amidst escalating global concerns over climate change and the pressing need for sustainable development, this study conducts a comparative analysis across 24 nations that have successfully achieved carbon peaking, evaluating their socioeconomic characteristics and carbon reduction strategies. Simultaneously, it examines China’s policy evolution and strategic responses within the context of its economic and urban development. The analysis reveals that countries with successful... Protein ligand binding site prediction using graph transformer neural network

by Ryuichiro Ishitani, Mizuki Takemoto, Kentaro Tomii

Ligand binding site prediction is a crucial initial step in structure-based drug discovery. Although several methods have been proposed previously, including those using geometry based and machine learning techniques, their accuracy is considered to be still insufficient. In this study, we introduce an approach that leverages a graph transformer neural network to rank the results of a geometry-based pocket detection method. We also created... Читать дальше...

The impact of multiple discrimination on labor misallocation of China: Based on fsQCA method

by Rongwang Guo, Jianxiu Wang, Yuntian You

Discrimination in the labor market hinders efficient labor allocation, impeding socio-economic health. With the rapid population aging in China, addressing multifaceted discrimination to enhance labor allocation efficiency emerges as a crucial area of research. To explore the relationship between five types of discrimination (age, gender, hukou, educational background, and occupation) and labor misallocation, this paper based on intersectionality theory... The radiation protection behavior of medical workers: A scoping review protocol

by Xun Liu, Yaqing Liu, Pengyan Xiong, Sixuan Guo, Lei Zhang, Li Liao

Introduction

Radiation exposure in medical settings stands as the primary source of artificial radiation, compounded by the yearly rise in healthcare worker numbers. Ensuring radiation protection is crucial for safeguarding their occupational health. Nevertheless, existing studies on radiation protection behavior exhibit considerable heterogeneity due to various factors.

Objective

This scoping review aims to explore... Читать дальше...
