FBLD 2024

The FBLD meetings have always been calendar highlights. Starting in 2008, before Practical Fragments even existed, they have graced cities around the world in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018. The plan was for 2020 to be held in Cambridge, UK, but for obvious reasons that didn’t happen. Last week, Boston hosted a triumphant return of the event. With more than 30 talks and dozens of posters I’ll just touch on a few major themes.

Qantas gives Superjumbo boost to its Sydney-Johannesburg route

Australian national flag carrier Qantas announced on Monday that it was nearly doubling passenger capacity on its Sydney-Johannesburg route, by introducing the Airbus A380 Superjumbo on to the route. It further announced that it had established a codeshare partnership with South African regional and domestic carrier Airlink. Qantas has never before operated the A380 to and from South Africa. Stuck NASA astronauts welcome SpaceX capsule that'll bring them home next year

The two astronauts stuck at the International Space Station since June are welcoming their new ride home. A SpaceX capsule docked at the orbiting complex on Sunday, a day after blasting off from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The capsule arrived with two astronauts, half the normal number, and two empty seats for Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams. But it won't depart until February, pushing the stay at the space station to eight months for Wilmore and Williams.
