New technique for spotting Dyson rings unveiled

Dyson spheres and rings have always held a special fascination for me. The concept is simple: build a great big structure either as a sphere or ring to harness the energy from a star. Dyson rings are far more simple and feasible to construct and in a recent paper a team of scientists explore how we might detect them by analyzing the light from distant stars. The team suggests they might be able to detect Dyson rings around pulsars using their new technique.

Two key proteins boost tomato's phosphorus efficiency and plant health

Phosphorus is a critical nutrient for plant growth, yet it is often locked away in soils and inaccessible to plants. The natural process of arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis (AMS), in which plants exchange carbon for essential nutrients with fungi, is one way to overcome this challenge. Despite its importance, the molecular mechanisms controlling this symbiotic relationship remain poorly understood, highlighting the need for further research into the genetic factors that regulate it.

Recyclable CuZn electrodes could reshape CO₂ reduction technologies

A researcher's team at Chungnam National University has unlocked new potential for copper-zinc (CuZn) electrodes in electrochemical CO₂ reduction (EC CO₂R). This research, led by Professor Youngku Sohn, explores the performance and recyclability of CuZn electrodes, comparing them with single-metal alternatives like copper and zinc, and highlighting their superior catalytic properties.
