My parents just got their home renovated – I was shocked by a detail in the stone floors, people are sure it’s human
FROM beach days to museum trips, most people have seen a fossil at some point.
However, one man was shocked to find what appeared to be ancient remains in stone slabs of his parents’ home.
In a viral post, Reddit user Kidipadeli75 shared the circumstances surrounding the strange discovery.
He also included a picture of the bone, which he surmised did not come from an animal.
The man, who works as a dentist, was able to use his expertise to spot what looked like a human jawbone in the hallway of the house.
“I look at cone-beam computed tomography systems (CBCT) all day long which may be why I immediately noticed it,” he said.
CBCT refers to medical imaging and X-rays of the mouth.
“My parents just got their home renovated with travertine stone,” he explained.
When visiting, the original poster noticed the strange detail at the threshold to their terrace.
While he joked about the remains being those of Jimmy Hoffa, he clarified that the quarry where the stone originated is located in Turkey.
He also revealed that his parents’ home is located somewhere in Europe.
“We have been reached by several researchers and we are currently discussing how we can get them involved,” he said.
Social media users speculated the jawbone, known officially as a mandible, came from a human.
However, the dental expert pointed out that it could have originated from any hominid, which is the name given to a primate family.
As well as humans, the group includes orangutans, gorillas, and chimpanzees.
The Redditor included a second picture of the jawbone, placing a banana beside it to offer size context.

Reddit users shared their various theories on the bone in the comments section.
“There is some precedent for this happening. I searched for ‘bones in travertine tile’ and got several results for different specimens,” wrote one person.
“This one seems to be one of the more interesting pieces though.”
“Dentist with forensic odontology training here: This is a hominid mandible, almost certainly human,” said another reader.
“Considering how quickly travertine forms, that mandible is probably around 200,000 years old, about the same time when modern humans first evolved. This is fascinating,” wrote a third person.
Another Reddit user called the unusual discovery a “literal jaw-dropper.”
“Imagine dying and then ending up as someone’s kitchen floor,” joked one Redditor.
