According to lawn care retailer Trimyxs, edging has multiple benefits, making it an essential part of lawn maintenance.

These include ensuring water flows where you want instead of pooling in “weird spots” and having a sharp border where your lawn ends.

Edging can also keep grass from invading your flower beds and make it harder for weeds to get on your lawn.

A well-maintained lawn can boost property value and prevent pest infestations.

Alexander Hayden (@acres_lawncare) boasts over 133,000 followers on Instagram, where he shares gardening tips.

He went viral on the app after revealing a “satisfying” way to edge lawns.

He placed a plank of wood alongside the edge of his lawn before using a razor hoe to cut a straight line.

Wooden planks can be bought at Home Depot for around $4.17, while a razor hoe is sold at Walmart for $40.51.

Alexander completed the lawn transformation using long-handled shears to trim the overhanging grass.

Fiskars Long Handled Swivel Grass Shears cost $56.02 at Walmart.

Over 48,000 people liked the video and many viewers took to the comment section thanking him for sharing the hack.

“I need to do this on my own yard,” one person wrote.

“Brilliant,” another said.

“Took on your edging method when laying our sleepers over the weekend,” a third commented.

“Has transformed our garden. So thank you.”

  1. Banana peels, vinegar, and coffee grounds are often recommended as natural fertilizers.
  2. Dollar Tree sells four packs of seeds for $1.25.
  3. Try a vertical planter like Amazon’s Mr. Stacky 5 Tier Stackable Planter, $35 to make more use of a small space.
  4. Use netting like the Garden Netting Pest Barrier, $8, from Amazon to keep away bugs that eat your vegetables.
  5. Try sacrificial planting to reduce the use of pesticides and keep pests away from your garden. Deliberately growing certain plants to attract agricultural pests can keep them away from the plants you want to protect. Examples include marigolds, lavender, catnip, and chives.
  6. For pesky weeds in your garden, the Grampa’s Weeder – The Original Stand-Up Weed Puller Tool with Long Handles, $45, from Amazon is a helpful tool you can use without having to bend over.

“I need to do this on my own yard,” another added.

The hack comes after gardening expert Fiona Jenkins shared tips for preventing bad grass.

“Don’t mow your lawn too often or too short, otherwise you’ll end up with shallow roots, poor growth, and even bare patches of ground,” she told The U.S. Sun.

“Once every two weeks is fine in spring and fall.”

“Pull out weeds as soon as you see them to stop them from taking nutrients and space away from your grass,” she added.
