My husband fell in love with his student – they give each other ‘yearning looks’ but he says he hasn’t cheated on me
A DISTRESSED woman confronted her husband after finding out he fell in love with his student.
Though he admitted to being emotionally disloyal in their relationship, he said he hasn’t cheated on her.
Redditor No-Faithlessness7067 shared her marriage problems in a post.
The wife and mother explained that she’d been married to her husband for eight years and that they had a four-year-old child together.
Her husband is a doctor and a professor at a medical school, a school that her friend, Sarah, also works at, in the same department.
“[A] few months back (in December), Sarah took me out for lunch and told me that she suspected something was going on between my husband and this med student,” she wrote.
“She claimed she’d seen both of them give ‘yearning looks’ to each other.
“She said that she’s known my husband for so long, and she’d never seen him talk to any other woman like this, that he’d been so aloof around women all these years, but it’s just different with this one girl.”
At first, the Redditor dismissed her concerns.
“In that moment, I had laughed at her face. I remember telling her that she’s jumping to conclusions based on these supposed ‘yearning looks,'” she said.
That night, however, she brought it up in conversation with her husband.
“I was laughing at the absurdity, and I expected him to join in and deny the wild possibility that he’s in love with a student,” she said.
“But he didn’t. Instead, he looked at me, all teary-eyed, and said, ‘I’m sorry. I can’t get her out of my mind. I’ve tried, trust me. I should’ve told you sooner. But I thought I could save our relationship, I really wanted to.”
After asking if he’d cheated on her, her husband assured her that he’d avoided contact with the student outside of school.
“She wrote him a letter about a year back, confessing her love for him, and he had told her that even [though] he was into her, nothing would come out of it,” she said.
“Apparently, that was when the ‘yearning looks’ had started.”

After the conversation, the Redditor moved in with her parents, bringing her daughter along.
She also admitted to checking the student’s social media and even compared the two to a popular pairing on the show Grey’s Anatomy.
“She’s insanely beautiful, almost doll-like and intelligent. I can’t help but think that someone like him should be with someone like her,” she said.
“He’s always been very good-looking, and I’m more of a plain Jane. She’s the Meredith to his Derek.”
In a follow-up post, she revealed that she’d decided to proceed with a divorce.
Her husband explained that while working in a research group together, he realized he was impressed with the student’s intelligence and beauty.
Although he dropped out of the research group following the realization, a few weeks later, the student gave him her love letter.
Her husband admitted to the student that he was also attracted to her, but he could not express his feelings.
“He said he’s willing to change his job and go to therapy. I told him to give me some time to think about it,” she said.
“This has been going on [for] three years. Not once did he mention anything to me.”
“That’s why I’ve decided to go ahead with a divorce. I don’t think I can trust this man again. And a relationship without trust isn’t something I am interested in.”
Viewers felt that her husband had made a foolish mistake.
