BeachLife attendees evaculated amid high wind warning

The evacuation, at about 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, was initially set for one hour.

Thousands of music lovers filed peacefully, but disapointedly, out of the Seaside Lagoon BeachLife festival grounds on Sunday as high winds buffeted the coast and the music event was put on pause for at least an hour.

The call to evacuate came at about 5:25 p.m., causing headliner ZZ Top to flee from the stage as the last of the festival’s three days neared its end.

Festival organizers were unclear as to who made the call to evacuate, according to Angela Moreno, a BeachLife spokesperson.

The action was initally called “a one-hour evacuation” with plans to call ticketholders back via social media, said Moreno, when the site was deemed safe.

The winds really started picking up in the late afternoon, especially close to shore at the LowTide stage where ZZ Top was performing.

About 20 minutes after the band began performing, frontman Billy Gibbons, with his signature beard flapping in the wind exclaimed, “Can someone turn the fan down?”

This is breaking news, watch for updates.
