With over 20 years of experience in scalp and hair health, Eva Proudman busted a commonly believed myth about how long it takes to grow your locks.

In a TikTok video, Absolute Collagen’s expert trichologist revealed that the rate of hair growth is mostly determined by genetics and not how often you trim your ends.

Proudman explained that everyone experiences varying rates and durations of hair growth dependent on family DNA.

It typically ranges between 0.5 to 1 centimeter per month.

While growing your follicles may seem like a daunting task, Eva has shared her top five tips to support hair health and maximize its growth potential.

QUALITY MATTERS

When it comes to hair products, quality is always the best option, regardless of cost.

Proudman recommended products that “nourish and protect the hair.”

This promotes overall health and vitality.

BALANCED DIET

One of the most recommended things you can do for your locks is to prioritize nutrition.

Maintain a balanced diet that includes plenty of protein, which can come from many sources.

Proud said it is a vital nutrient for hair health and growth.

HYDRATION IS KEY

Proudman emphasized the importance of staying hydrated.

According to the expert, hair is composed of 10% water, which is necessary for a healthy scalp.

“Proper hydration is essential for maintaining hair moisture and overall health,” she said.

Should you apply vitamin C to your skin?

Topical Vitamin C has several benefits for skin including hydrating, reducing redness, and hyperpigmentation.

According to Healthline, it may also help to promote collagen production and reduce the appearance of sun damage.

Research shows that it is safe for most skin types but may cause irritation in concentrations above 20%.

Experts recommend doing a patch test on a small skin area and waiting 24 hours to see if there are side effects before applying it to your face.

Discontinue topical use of vitamin C if you experience rashes, redness, or hives.

    SUPPLEMENT SAVES

Proudman also suggested adding two vitamin supplements to your daily routine.

She said that many of us are deficient in vitamin D, which plays a “crucial role” in supporting growth.

It also regulates the immune system and promotes the growth phase of hair follicles.

She recommended a daily intake of 1000 IU vitamin D for “optimal hair health.”

    QUICK ADDITION

Also for those following a plant-based diet, share suggested supplementing Vitamin B12.

It is essential for maintaining healthy hair, especially for people not getting animal proteins.
