Eurovision legend says she’ll whip her skirt off on stage until she ‘physically can’t’

A EUROVISION legend has said that she plans to whip off her skirt on stage until she “physically can’t.”

Cheryl Baker, who won the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest with Bucks Fizz, has no plans to slow down anytime soon.

The iconic British pop group formed just a few months before taking first place at the Contest in Dublin with Making Your Mind Up.

Their famous routine saw the male members – Mike Nolan and Bobby G – rip female singers’ Cheryl and Jay Aston’s skirts off revealing shorter mini skirts.

Just this week Mike announced his departure from the group, now operating as The Fizz, but remaining members Jay and Cheryl have vowed to continue on.

On behalf of Heart Bingo, Cheryl, 70, told The Sun: “If you’d have asked me back in 1981, will you still be performing?

“Will you still be ripping your skirts off in your late 60s, or 70 as I now am, I’d have gone ‘that’s disgusting! No, of course not’.

“But I am and I don’t feel any different. And I’m still fit and I’m still active.

“So, I don’t see why not. See, the thing is, music is not a career choice. It’s in your blood and you just do it. And I’m going to do it until I can’t do it anymore. And at the moment, I can.

Asked about her youthful appearance, Cheryl, 70, then added: “Yeah, I get those questions all the time. Like, ‘how do you look so good’?

“First of all, you don’t see me with any makeup on. But my answer is: eat too much, drink too much and don’t get enough sleep.”

Cheryl initially left the group back in 1993, after its popularity had long since waned, to focus on her TV career.

But a decade later, she was back in the fold as the group, who at that time featured Shelley Preston, capitalised on the resurgent nostalgia circuit.

A bitter legal row with Bobby over the use of naming rights forced Cheryl, Mike and Jay to perform as The Fizz.

Cheryl continues to take a keen interest in Eurovision and doesn’t believe the UK will win this time around, even with the involvement of a famous performer.

She slammed Olly Alexander‘s track, Dizzy, ahead of this weekend’s final, adding to the backlash around the raunchy song.

Cheryl said: “I don’t think we’ll win. I love Olly. I loved him as Years and Years. Everything about them, I think they’re great.

“But the song doesn’t do it for me. When it starts, you think, it’s okay. But then it doesn’t go anywhere.

“You know, dare I say it, you need a couple of key changes. And it just makes it lift. So I know that their performance is going to be extraordinary because we’ve seen clips of it on YouTube and stuff.

“So I’m hoping that that pulls it out of the bag for him. I still don’t think it’s a winning song, unfortunately. Sorry, Olly.”
